Judge
Louise Blyton is an Australian artist based in Melbourne whose practice is rooted in a reductive approach to form, colour and space. She graduated with a BFA from RMIT University in 1988 and has exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally, with more than 17 solo exhibitions, including solo exhibitions in New York, Paris and Seoul.
Blyton’s practice moves between painting and sculpture, creating constructed and shaped works that explore the relationship between colour, form, texture, light and space. Her reductive approach is central to her practice, using simplicity and precision to create works that are both considered and quietly complex.
Her international experience includes studio residencies in New York, Paris and Beijing, as well as extensive solo and group exhibitions in Australia and overseas. Since 2010, she has also curated The Exquisite Palette, an ongoing collaborative project bringing together the work of artists from different backgrounds.
With a career spanning more than three decades, Blyton brings a long-standing engagement with reductive and abstract art with a broad experience of contemporary painting and sculpture to her role as a judge.
